Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu awarded N10 million to Olaniyi Mubaraq Olawale, the best-graduating student at Lagos State University (LASU), during the university’s 27th Convocation and 41st Anniversary celebration on Thursday.
Olaniyi Mubaraq Olawale, Accounting Education, who graduated with a CGPA of 4.98,for the 2022/2023academic session.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on New Media, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this information in a post.
He stated that the governor got to the state university at 12:38 pm.
Gawat wrote: “UPDATE: Governor of Lagos state and visitor, Mr @jidesanwoolu’s arrival at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo Campus for the Grand Finale of the 27th convocation ceremony.
“Convocation for the award of Diplomas, First Degrees & Prizes, Postgraduate Diplomas, Higher Degrees & Conferment of Rank Distinguished Professor, Rank of Emeritus Professor and Honorary Doctorate Degrees.”
The overall best graduating student of Lagos State University (LASU), Olaniyi Olawale, was awarded a generous gift of N10 million by Sanwo-Olu.
Olawale, who graduated with a degree in accounting education, attained an impressive CGPA of 4.98.
During the grand finale of the university’s 27th convocation ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu made this announcement.
Furthermore, the governor revealed his administration’s plan to construct an 8,200 bed hostel within the university.
A remarkable number of over 11,000 students successfully graduated from the institution.
Some of the first-class students who spoke with The ICIR expressed disappointment over what they described as the school management’s failure to acknowledge their outstanding academic achievements during the institution’s week-long convocation.
They also noted that the overall best student of each year was robbed of the recognition they deserved, adding that among them was a student who achieved 4.96 grade points.
Apart from the vice-chancellor and the registrar’s announcement of the best graduates from 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2022/23 sessions, the university was said to have spent a whole day conferring honorary degrees.
