Many feared injured as fire guts popular supermarket in Abuja

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a fierce and uncontrollable fire engulfed a popular shopping mall called IC World Supermarket in Gwarinpa, situated along the Kubwa expressway in Abuja.

Diligent members of the Fire Service from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been actively engaged in a challenging effort to extinguish the flames, but unfortunately, valuable goods and property have already fallen victim to the destructive blaze.

It is disheartening to note that this incident unfolds just a few months after Ebeano Supermarket in Abuja underwent a similar tragic fate.

The recurrence of such devastating events raises concerns about the safety and resilience of commercial establishments, prompting a collective call for enhanced fire prevention measures and preparedness within the community.

The fire was reported to have started in the early hours of Wednesday, January 17, 2023.

Viral videos online show fire burning through the roof of the building. However there are videos of the Nigerian fire service also at the scene.

This report is coming barely 12 hours after an explosion, believed to have been caused by activities of illegal miners, rocked the capital of Oyo State, Ibadan the largest city in West Africa.

The governor of Oyo State had earlier called for calm as he claimed the casualties recorded were 2 with many injuries.
