The lawsuit claims the assault happened following Brown’s concert at Dickies Arena in Forth Worth on Saturday night. The court filing alleges that the attack was unprovoked, and involved Brown and his entourage surrounding the plaintiffs, then throwing chairs at them, kicking them, stomping them and beating them.
The four men listed as plaintiffs in the suit are seeking retribution from the men who allegedly beat them as well as from Live Nation, the company that promoted the event. The plaintiffs, who are being represented by prominent Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, are seeking $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
Buzbee has previously litigated high-profile cases against NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson, rapper Travis Scott and oil and gas giant BP. He was also the lead attorney representing Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton in his impeachment trial.
Buzbee issued a statement regarding the case via his instagram account on Sunday morning.
“We filed suit last night alleging that, on Saturday night in Ft. Worth, entertainer Chris Brown, along with his entourage, attacked and brutally beat several men who had just attended his concert,” Buzbee wrote in an Instagram caption for a picture of Chris Brown attending a previous court proceeding while wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. “Multiple police reports have been made. At least one of the men beaten remains hospitalized. Chris Brown reportedly has a long history of violence and has been arrested or accused of assault on at least ten occasions. Enough! The lawsuit The Buzbee Law Firm has filed seeks damages on behalf of the four men brutalized this last weekend, with the hope of obtaining justice for these victims and putting an end, once and for all, to the intolerable and thuggish behavior set forth in the lawsuit.”
Chris Brown has been charged criminally in assault cases before. The “Forever” singer has faced legal issues in the past, most infamously in a criminal case, when he pleaded guilty to having assaulted Rihanna in 2009.
The plaintiffs are seeking a temporary restraining order against the defendants, in addition to $50 million.
