In a distressing turn of events, Charles Ogbonna, a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) in the Nigerian Army, has been abducted by unknown gunmen near an army barracks in Makurdi, the state capital.
Ogbonna’s identity card was discovered in his abandoned vehicle, left by the kidnappers. Military sources revealed that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N5 million for his release.
A military signal obtained by SaharaReporters provided further details, stating that the kidnappers have been in communication with Ogbonna’s wife regarding the ransom. The signal read:
“Information received from Adjutant 72 Para Battalion revealed that our unit’s SNCO 93NA/36/1480/Warrant Officer Charles Ogbonna is suspected to have been kidnapped. The SNCO was on pass from May 10-19, 2024, and was to report for duty on Monday, May 20, 2024, but failed to do so. He was last seen around 0800 hours on May 19, 2024, driving out of the barracks in Makurdi en route to Agenebode.
“Troops of 72 Para Battalion later found his car abandoned along the Naka-Makurdi Road while responding to a robbery and kidnapping incident. The SNCO’s military ID card was found in the car. Our investigation revealed that the kidnappers have contacted the SNCO’s wife, demanding a ransom of N5 million.
“72 Para Battalion has intensified efforts to search for the SNCO. Respectfully forwarded for your information.”
