Suspected terrorists have attacked and reportedly killed many residents, including women and children at Kubat village in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State during an assault on Monday night.
The terrorists invaded the community when the villagers were asleep.
Governor Simon Lalong, who confirmed the incident, described it as a sad development and directed security forces to pursue and apprehend the attackers.
According to Dr. Makut Simon, Lalong’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, the governor also directed the State Emergency Management Agency and the Peace Building Agency to visit the area and assess the humanitarian needs in order to provide assistance to those affected while an investigation was conducted.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, is yet to respond to the inquiry by Daily Trust on the casualty figures as of the time of filing this report.
The suspected bandits stormed the communities two Sundays ago, unleashing a wave of violence.
Although the exact number of casualties has yet to be determined, several residents were believed to have died in the attack.
The Plateau State Governor seems to be helpless over the situation as his directive to the security forces has not only been ignored but failed to stop the killings.
